Pattern
ch6, join in 1st ch.
1st row: ch3, counts as 1st hdc, 12 hdc in ring and join with sl st. (12 stitches)
2nd row: ch3 1dc in same st, 2dc in each st around, join with sl st. (24 stitches)
3rd row: ch3, 2 dc in same loop1, 3dc in each loop between each 2dc cluster, insert hook in top of beginning chain, cut yarn leaving enough yarn to tie on new color, tie on new contrasting color and complete sl st. (12 clusters)
4th row: ch3, dc ch1 2dc in same loop (making a double V stitch), and make a double V stitch in each 1st loop of 3dc cluster (12 groups of double V stitch, join with sl st.
5th row: sc in ch1 sp in center of double V stitch, ch3, dc in same ch1 sp, ch1, 2dc in same ch1 sp, making a double V stitch, work a double V stitch in each ch1 sp to end of row, insert hook in top of beginning chain, cut yarn leaving enough yarn to tie on new color, tie on new contrasting color and complete sl st.
6th row: sc in same ch1 sp, *[work cluster (1hdc 5dc 1hdc) in ch1 sp, skip 2dc and ch1 in loop], repeat from * to end, sl st in top of 1st sc, [ch12 and sl st in top of sc (id desired to form loop to hang up)], knot off, (leaving long tail to sew on first one of the two if making a hot mat).
1 instead of going in just the top stitch, you go into the top and bottom of the stitch, between each 2dc cluster.
For hot pad, make two, and before finishing off 2nd one: join back sides together, sew through each stitch. To finish off, cut off abou 6" and pull thru, knot off and weave yarn end thru stitches to hide.
